Why Do We Do It?
Like many new ideas, DappR Aeropods were born from a unique combination of circumstances.
David Palmer, one of DappR’s founders, an aviation enthusiast, balloon pilot, entrepreneur and committed recycler had already set up his own IT recycling business called “We Want Your IT”.
Andrew Pearce, an aviation industry professional approached David to investigate the feasability of recovering the avionics and electronics from a commercial airliner.
After detailed investigation, David concluded it would be uneconomic and asked what happened to the airframe. “Oh it is normally just scrapped” was the reply.
This niggled David – what a waste! - what could you do with such a valuable and well engineered structure?
He talked over tea with his daughter Emily, then studying for a furniture design degree at a top London college.
From Emily’s first visualisations an idea was born...
It wasn’t just the fuselage; David and Emily also realised that many other life or time expired airline parts destined to be scrapped could be converted to interesting and upcycled art and furniture.
After two year’s of planning and detailed negotiation David decided to turn his and Emily’s dream into reality.
